Victorian Home Restoration Supplies?

| We're searching to replace some existing dowels, and posts, on the front-porch railings of our Victorian home. Is there any type of "restoration" parts-supply store, relatively close by, which carries wooden dowels, posts, and perhaps other Victorian style ornaments? We haven't found the same dowels at Lowes or Home Depot. (Ours is the grey Victorian, with the horrid pink trim, across from the church office. Many thanks, The Norens 2nd Street

I, also, have a very old home on Iron Horse Lane
(105+) and wish I had some money to improve stuff!
But, I have looked into and/or purchased products.
I bought some molding at Southern Lumber in San Jose.
They have a great supply of wood cut styles (some
definitely made to accomodate older homes), are
non-corp, and very helpful.

If you're willing to scrape around and like to shop
for fixer-upper salvages, then try Urban Ore in
Berkeley

I know, neither are local. But they are both
companies that are worth the drive and support.

Wholehouse building supply on Pulgas Rd in East Palo Alto has all kinds of old home stuff. They salvage from homes slated for demo on the peninsula. They have demo sales prior to the demolition where you can go to the house and take whatever you want (for a fee) then whatever is left goes to there yard. Mark DuBois Duarte Ave |

I agree about Wholehouse Building Supply, but I think they have moved and I'm afraid I do not know where to. The Pulgas location may have the new address posted, or you may want to try information. I remember seeing that they were moving maybe at the end of December or the end of January. I cannot remember which. Just FYI. Good luck. Elizabeth |

Besides Whole House in East Palo Alto, there is also Urban Ore in the Berkeley/Oakland area and a place that I don't know the name of in San Francisco. These are a bit further to go, but also offer a big selection of recovered materials. Dorothy Niles Blvd |

Never been there but I think the place in SFO is Ohmega salvage?
Wholehouse actually demolished a victorian on Mowry a few years ago.
Funny that I found a picture of that house and the surrounding barn
and buildings in the National Library of Congress photo archives on
line.
