Rehab Center (5 replies)
Your e-mail was pretty thorough on all the possibilities for conjestion and shortcuts, but I'd like to add one more "new nightmare" to our end of Linda Dr. That new rehab center that went in between the church and the overpass. People are stopping on Niles turn left into the center, and slowing down coming from over the overpass to turn right into the driveway. Extremely Dangerous addition to an already bad intersection. People coming and going should really be encouraged to use the other driveway leading into the church.

I'm assuming that cutting down the beautiful Lombardy Poplars on the island at the bottom of that overpass is an attempt to provide clearer visibility because of the increased traffic - too bad that the natural beauty of the area is once again sacrificed to growth.

As someone who has done business at D&G Automotive at the foot of that
overpass on the north side, I can venture a guess as to why the trees
were removed. More than once I've come close to being creamed by
speeding traffic on Niles Boulevard that is approaching as I'm trying
to make a left turn across traffic from D&G Automotive to drive home
toward Niles in a freshly repaired car.

Visibility from either direction for making the turn I've described
has been marginal at best. If the traffic wasn't speeding, the
visibility would be marginally adequate, but that's in a fantasy
world. Speeding is an epidemic problem anymore, no matter what road
you drive on. More and more people seem to drive like they've got a
cupful of fire ants in their britches and are headed for the
insecticide store.

Someone mentioned the buildings on the property next to the church
near the overpass as a "rehab center" - is this a drug rehab?

My husband and I watched the rather rapid construction and noticed
the ambiguous signage and have been wondering what is going on there.

I doubt that removal of the trees on the south side would improve the visibility on the north side. The idiots that think Niles Blvd at the overpass is a freeway on ramp are still going to injure or do someone in one of these days. I love it when you can hear the motorcycle cops doing their sweeps - just haven't heard it enough lately :((

It is for the disabled
The housing next to the church is for developmentally disabled adults..Folks who used to live at the Serra Center. It is not rehab of any kind but permanent housing for folks unable to live entirely on their own. I doubt they generate much traffic..
