Driving/Parking Issue in Downtown Niles See all 10 replies
Does anyone know if there is anything we can do to make it safer for business customers to back out of the angled parking spaces along the west side of Niles Boulevard downtown? On numerous occasions, I've come close to being hit while backing out of them. So, when I'm driving through there and someone is trying to back out, I always stop and let them.

Rehab Center See all 5 replies
Your e-mail was pretty thorough on all the possibilities for conjestion and shortcuts, but I'd like to add one more "new nightmare" to our end of Linda Dr. That new rehab center that went in between the church and the overpass. People are stopping on Niles turn left into the center, and slowing down coming from over the overpass to turn right into the driveway. Extremely Dangerous addition to an already bad intersection. People coming and going should really be encouraged to use the other driveway leading into the church.

Niles Clean-Up See all 3 replies
I've peppered the e-group recently with comments about roadside garbage and derelict buildings in Niles. I got off my soapbox today and tackled the trash and weeds that ugh up our image. To start, I'm focusing on our front door  - the Niles Boulevard corridor from Mission to the car wash (and the wooden Niles sign hidden behind a tree). A couple of hardworking Niles folks pitched in this afternoon to weed, sweep and haul trash and wet leaves away from the sidewalk in front of the Henkel building.

Henkel Update See all 18 replies
The California Regional Water Quality Control Board has announced a cleanup plan for the Henkel site.  This cleanup is for the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) pollution.  We as neighbors to the site have been contacted directly and we have complied with our concerns and requests in writing.

The Shame about the Toy Box See all 11 replies
About 8 months ago when I joined the e-group, I thought it was a wonderful forum to keep Niles a tight community and a STRONG community.  We all wish to see our beautiful neighborhood folurish.  I was a little irritated with how harshly some reacted when the proprieter of the Toy Box tried to spread the news on this forum for a magician they were having at an event in their store.  Everyone went off about how this is not a venue for business owners to advertise their promotions, but instead only a place where persons can spread the word about their own wares.

What type of community is Niles going to be? See all 2 replies
I am seeing some troubling patterns: (1) postings calling groups of people names (i.e. street homeless people being referred as "bums"), (2) reaction to new proposed projects without any basic information gathering being done first (Joe's Corner or Niles Grove) and most troubling (3) a general NIMBY "Not in my backyard" stand on any and all new housing development in our area.
